For the Dough (New York Rolls):
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 2 ¼ tsp instant yeast 1 packet
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1 egg
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter softened
For the Glazes:
- 1 cup powdered sugar per glaze flavor
- 1 –2 tbsp milk
- ½ tsp matcha powder for matcha glaze
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder for chocolate glaze
- Sprinkles or crushed nuts optional for topping
Make the Dough: In a mixing bowl, whisk flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Add warm milk, egg, and softened butter. Knead until dough is smooth and elastic (8–10 minutes by hand or 5 minutes with a stand mixer).
First Rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–2 hours, until doubled in size.
Shape Rolls: Punch down dough and divide into equal portions (8–10). Roll into smooth balls and place on a lined baking sheet. Cover loosely and let rise another 30–45 minutes.
Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 20–25 minutes, until golden brown. Cool on a wire rack.
Make the Glazes: In two bowls, whisk powdered sugar with milk to make a smooth glaze. Stir matcha powder into one bowl and cocoa powder into the other.
Glaze the Rolls: Once cooled slightly, dip each roll into glaze, letting excess drip down the sides. Sprinkle with decorations before glaze sets.
Serve: Enjoy warm or at room temperature with tea, coffee, or as a festive dessert.
Tips & Variations

-
Extra shine: Add a drizzle of melted white chocolate over the glaze.
-
Matcha boost: Mix a teaspoon of matcha into the dough for a green swirl inside.
