- 1 20 oz package refrigerated cheese tortellini
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
- ½ cup grated parmesan cheese
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Oil for frying vegetable or canola
- Optional garnish: fresh parsley or basil
Cook the tortellini according to package instructions until just al dente. Drain well and allow to cool slightly.
In a shallow bowl, beat the eggs until smooth.
In a separate bowl, combine breadcrumbs, parmesan cheese, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.
Dip each tortellini into the beaten eggs, then coat thoroughly in the breadcrumb mixture.
Heat oil in a deep skillet or saucepan to 350°F (175°C).
Fry the tortellini in batches for 2–3 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crispy.
Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Garnish with fresh herbs and extra parmesan cheese. Serve immediately while hot and crisp.
Tips & Variations
- Air fryer option: Lightly spray breaded tortellini with oil and air fry at 400°F for 8–10 minutes, shaking halfway through.
- Extra crunch: Swap Italian breadcrumbs for panko breadcrumbs.
- Spicy twist: Add chili flakes, cayenne, or smoked paprika to the breadcrumb mixture.
- Different fillings: Spinach and ricotta tortellini work beautifully for a lighter, herby flavor.
Storage
- Refrigerator: Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
- Reheating: Reheat in the oven or air fryer to restore crispiness.
- Freezing: Not recommended once fried, as the coating may lose texture.
