- 6 oz ladyfingers
- 1/2 lb blueberries
- 1 lb blackberries (your choice)
- 1 lb mascarpone cheese
- 4 large egg yolks
- 5 tbsp granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup heavy cream
- 4 tbsp honey plus more to taste
- Juice of 2 lemons
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp water
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish
- Edible flowers optional, for garnish
In a heat-safe bowl, whisk egg yolks with sugar and water. Set over a double boiler and whisk gently until thickened and pale. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
Beat mascarpone cheese with vanilla extract until smooth.
Fold the cooled yolk mixture into the mascarpone until fully incorporated.
In a separate bowl, whip heavy cream to soft peaks, then gently fold into the mascarpone mixture to create a light, airy cream.
Toss berries with lemon juice and honey. Let sit for 10 minutes to release juices.
Arrange a layer of ladyfingers at the bottom of a trifle dish. Spoon some berry juices over them to lightly soak.
Add a layer of mascarpone cream, followed by a layer of mixed berries.
Repeat layers until ingredients are used, finishing with mascarpone cream and berries on top.
Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours (preferably overnight).
Garnish with basil leaves and edible flowers before serving.
